K18 took experiential marketing to the streets of New York with Tumblehair, a 10-foot ball of hair created to visualize its hair longevity science. The unexpected stunt reached more than 15 million social media users and generated $6.62 million in earned media value.

How do you turn a complex scientific concept into something people immediately notice? K18’s answer was impossible to ignore: a 10-foot, 180-pound ball of hair rolling through New York City.

Created to launch K18’s FutureU Biomimetic Hair Longevity Serum, the unbranded “Tumblehair” transformed the concept of hair longevity into a physical spectacle. The activation traveled through some of Manhattan’s busiest neighborhoods before arriving at a Sephora pop-up where consumers could experience the product and learn about the science behind it.

The campaign reached more than 15 million social media users, with 98.1% of its reach driven by user-generated content, showing how an unexpected real-world experience can turn product education into conversation.

For beauty brands, K18 offers a compelling example of how science, creativity, and experiential marketing can work together without sacrificing the product story.
